Presentations at the Springfield Greene County Juvenile Detention Center and the Greene County Youth Academy

Back in 2010, I was contacted by Ms. Barbie Mooneyham and she asked me to present at the Juvenile Detention Center in Springfield.  I was a little nervous the first time because I had never been in lock-down facility.  The class was small with about four students and we examined aquatic macroinvertebrates (insects) along with a case study to determine where the pollution came from in a stream.  The students ate it up!

The students were very intuitive with their questions and it is a very relaxed atmosphere to teach in.  My presentation usually takes about 50 minutes to complete but I am there for about 2 hours every time I present.  Ms. Mooneyham enjoyed the presentation so much that I am on a 4 week rotating schedule to present at the Juvenile Center and a 6-week schedule for the Greene County Youth Academy.

The Greene County Youth Academy is an amazing organization built to help boys adjust to re-entering their schools after they have been out for a while for law-breaking issues.  The classes I teach have always been interesting and the boys amaze me with their intuitive questions.  These presentations have been one of the best experiences in teaching I have ever had at both the GCYA and the Juvenile Detention Center.

Thanks Ms. Barbie Mooneyham and all the students!

Holland Elementary Field Day

Welcome to the Water Education page for Table Rock Lake Water Quality!

I have been working for TRLWQ since September 2009 and love it!  I have a serious passion for educating all age groups about water quality.  I have lived in the Ozarks since June 2007 and have decided to make it my home!  It’s a beautiful area and I really enjoy the “early Springs”.

A little bit about me…  I am an aquatic biologist at heart and show that passion through my teaching.  I am a strong believer in hands-on education!  I completed my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  I decided I wanted more school so I earned my Master’s of Biology from Missouri State University in Springfield.  I have always been dedicated to water quality and have many fond childhood memories of coming back to the house “sopping wet” from the creek!  (Much to Mom’s dismay…)

Dirty hands = Good day!

I have many educational presentations for anyone to choose from.  I present to school groups but also to any size group of any age.  I really enjoy speaking with anyone!  Those of you that are teachers, my presentations are mostly from the Project WET program.  Many of the activities for the students fufill the GLEs and CLEs.  If you are interested, feel free to contact me and ask questions.
