           I. Watershed Management Plans:

A Watershed Management Plan outlines goals and actions to protect and improve water quality in a certain focus area. This is done by identifying pollutant sources, identifying better management practices to be implemented on the land (watershed), setting reachable goals and developing a timeline for implementation of projects to reach those goals. Read more on watershed management plans from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Table Rock Lake Watershed Management Plans

We are currently developing a Watershed Management Plan for Table Rock Lake which  includes local public participation, water quality data, land use changes and recommended policies and projects to help protect Table Rock Lake from water quality degradation due to development of the watershed.  A presentation on this is included in our Water Quality Summit on June 17th.

Lake Taneycomo Watershed Management Plan

The Lake Taneycomo WMP meetings are underway.  The first stakeholder meeting was a success with many topics discussed.  The second stakeholder meeting gained ground on pinpointing specific issues for the Lake Taneycomo watershed.  These groups will discuss real and perceived threats to the water quality in the lake as well as propose policy and  education solutions aimed at protecting water quality. If you are interested in lending a bit of your time and voice toward protection of the water resources in Lake Taneycomo area (Forsyth, Branson, Hollister, Rockaway Beach, Walnut Shade, Saddlebrooke etc.) please contact Tammy at tammyyelden@trlwq.org.

Septic Remediation Cost-share Project (Lower James River)
The overall goal of this project is to help reduce nutrient pollution to Table Rock Lake, a source of which can be failing septic systems. Additional goals are to assist area homeowners in replacing and repairing their failing wastewater treatment systems…..For More on our Cost-share Program...

The Table Rock Lake National Onsite Systems Demonstration Project tested different types of advanced technology for Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems—better known as septic tanks. This project planned to find solutions to the many failing and inadequate OWTS in the Table Rock Lake area. Three main goals were:
Install and test different types of advanced wastewater treatment technologies to evaluate effectiveness in the unique geological setting around Table Rock Lake.
Develop a management program following the EPA’s recommended management models for OWTS.
Identify legal impediments to widespread adoption of advanced OWTS by changing the regulatory and wastewater industry’s perceptions of these systems and gaining their acceptance in Missouri.
For additional information on the National Demonstration Project…..

Septic Effluent Study: EVALUATION OF MOVEMENT OF SEPTIC SYSTEM EFFLUENT FROM LAKE DEVELOPMENT INTO NEAR-SHORE AREAS OF TABLE ROCK LAKE (2001)
The goals of this study were to assess the presence of septic system and treatment plant effluents (leakage) within the near-shore areas of Table Rock Lake and evaluate the potential impacts of these pollution sources on water quality.

Table Rock LakeSmart Program
Education & demonstration of solutions to storm water run-off pollution in communities around Table Rock Lake
Table Rock Lake Water Quality Inc. is planning a project to demonstrate better storm water management solutions in the Table Rock Lake watershed. Proposed solutions include vegetative detention features, “bioretention”, which removes pollutant such as oils, nutrients and sediments from storm water run-off as it enters the lake (or streams). These features also create habitat for birds and butterflies, slow down stormwater allowing it to soak into the ground and provide beautiful landscapes.
TRLWQ is seeking potential partners to contribute advice, knowledge, the locations and/or labor (planting of plants and trees) including:
• Businesses
• Residents
• Planning and zoning
• Cities & Towns
• Homeowner’s associations
• Resorts and campgrounds
• Marinas
