Table Rock Lake Water Quality, Inc. is dedicated to maintain and improve the quality of ground and surface waters of the Table Rock Lake watershed.The Board of Trustees of Table Rock Lake Water Quality, Inc. has concentrated heavily on the overwhelming task of self-education, knowing full well it is a continuing long-term process. Their focus continues to be various water quality issues; causes of the problem; origination of the source; cooperation with the various local, state and federal agencies and public leaders, cooperation with other water quality organizations; education of the public on water quality issues; and how Table Rock Lake Water Quality, Inc. can make a difference. Table Rock Lake Water Quality, Inc. is an action group, with projects that actually stop water pollution sources and accomplish these projects in a determined, positive, helpful and organized manner.
History
Table Rock Lake Water Quality, Inc. is a 501 C-3 corporation committed to improving the water quality of Table Rock Lake. The corporation was formed in December, 1998 by the Table Rock Lake/Kimberling City Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber's board of directors recognized that the improvement and preservation of the water quality of Table Rock Lake to be a monumental challenge deserving of a commitment from a one purpose organization.Each of the trustees of the water quality board concentrated heavily on the overwhelming task of self -education, knowing full well that it would be a continuing long-term process. They focused on various water quality issues; cause of the problem; origination of the source; other organizations and state agencies working on the problem; and how this organization could make a difference. The Board concluded that they would be an action group, with projects that actually stopped pollution sources, and accomplish these projects in a determined, positive, helpful and organized manner. In addition they noted that it will be paramount to have the support and involvement of a broad range of community leaders.
Steve Mahfood, the Director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR ), met with the group in September, 2000 and pledged the full support of the Department to the efforts of the Table Rock Lake Water Quality, Inc. Mahfood identified the three major causes of pollution in Table Rock Lake: Discharges from sewage treatment plants, waste products from the chicken industry spread on fields in Arkansas as fertilizer and effluent from individual septic systems in the watershed. Many of the 20,000 individual septic systems near Table Rock Lake fail due to system failure and to soil conditions not suitable for septic systems.
